We opened our doors in 1989 to serve 35 families as the Community Pantry. Today, we provide 1,750 bags of food each week to more than 5,000 residents of our area. That’s 110,000 meals every month. We engage our community in other ways too, including nutrition programs, advocacy and food stamp (SNAP) outreach.

In the transformation from pantry to food bank, we recently expanded our operation to serve the needs of local non-profit agencies as well as individuals. But we still operate our pantry program for local families every Friday and Saturday at the warehouse in Hollister.

We seek grants and other donations from a variety of sources, but relationships right here at home are most important to us. Support from San Benito County residents, businesspeople and farmers enables us to feed low income families, children and seniors from San Juan Bautista to Bitterwater. Our overhead is low, with 92 cents of every dollar donated going directly to supply food to those in need. Donate now to help out.

Volunteers are welcome at the Community Food Bank. We have a job for just about anyone, working hand in hand with our staff. Our dedicated, energetic volunteers are vital to our success, providing the equivalent of about 14 full-time employees.

As the only countywide source of nutritious food for residents and for other agencies that serve people in need–children’s programs, shelters, senior programs and emergency food distributions–we are your Community Food Bank.
