Anyone who spends more than a few minutes at Community FoodBank will find that a mental adjustment is in order. Groceries are not calculated in terms of cartons, or pounds, but rather in tons, bins and truckloads. That’s what it takes to feed more than 5,000 people each month.

And so this week, Community FoodBank has more than 4,000 pounds of summer sweet cantaloupe in the coolers, and it will all be on kitchen counters throughout San Benito County by Saturday afternoon. Melons, with their floral perfume, speak to the very essence of the season. For the simplest of summer coolers, try peeling and seeding a cantaloupe, cutting it into chunks and dropping it into a blender with a few handfuls of ice. In less than 60 seconds, a summer smoothie is waiting for you.

Community Food Bank’s mission is to provide food, nutritional education and advocacy for our neighbors in need within San Benito County.
