Action has been the operative word in Bayer’s involvement with the food bank and we couldn’t be more excited about partnering with this fantastic group of local people. Hailing from their office and field operations in San Juan Bautista, the Bayer volunteer team arrived at the food bank just before 8:30 a.m. on the company’s designated “Community Day of Service,” October 18th. After receiving a briefing from our volunteer coordinator and warehouse supervisor, the team was ready and willing to serve the customers coming into the marketplace that day.
“We’re excited to be here,” said Juan Tafolla, Seed Production Area Manager, “it helps local people.” Juan and other members of the volunteer team took their stations at the various produce displays and began greeting customers and keeping the groceries stocked.
We were told that the Bayer team talked amongst themselves and chose Community FoodBank as the place they wanted to volunteer. In an email to FoodBank, Allison Skow, ESH Technician, wrote, “Depending on how many volunteers you can accommodate we may need to schedule a second day the following week, whether that be filling backpacks or helping out at the Friday marketplace.” What a wonderful situation to be in – an abundance of volunteers.
Our thanks to Nancy Bergamini, Testing & Operations Manager, and the entire crew for choosing FoodBank as the place to be. We are looking forward to seeing you again.
Community Food Bank’s mission is to provide food, nutritional education and advocacy for our neighbors in need within San Benito County.
