The days are growing shorter and Thanksgiving is on its way. That can only mean one thing: It’s time for Community FoodBank’s annual Food and Fund Drive. Barrels can be put out in the community inviting people to pitch in for a healthier San Benito County. Non-perishable items may be dropped in any barrel, or dropped off at the side doors of the food bank at 1133 San Felipe Road Tuesday through Thursday.
Once again this year, Safeway’s Nourishing Neighbors is under way with a campaign to buy “Hunger Bags.” Shoppers can buy a bag for $10, which buys about $30 worth of groceries. All bags bought through the Hollister store go to Community FoodBank. You can also donate on Safeway Foundation’s website by clicking on the picture.
Last year’s effort brought in thousands of pounds of food, just in time for the chilly days of winter.
If you’d like to consider a monetary contribution, hold on just a bit! Checks dated Dec. 1 to Dec. 12, with the designation “12 Days” on the memo line, qualify for a match generously supplied by local organizations and businesses. Cash donations arriving in that window, with a note indicating 12 Days attached, also qualify for the match.
Your generosity goes further through the annual 12 Days of Giving campaign! Also participating are CASA of San Benito County, Chamberlain’s Children Center, Emmaus House and Sun Street Centers. Questions? Call Community FoodBank at 637-0340.
